Seasonal flooding in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta has left at least 222 people, including 182 children, dead, according to officials in the south-east Asian country.

The floods have inundated 253,000 homes and destroyed rice crops in six provinces, causing an estimated £30m in damage.

Teams of military personnel and volunteers have evacuated more than 24,000 families from the affected regions, with floodwaters remaining dangerously high.

However, around 190,000 families are still in need of assistance, with only 43,000 families receiving relief supplies so far.
