Slovenia's army has been deployed to help handle the influx of refugees after Hungary imposed border controls.

The tightened security means that refugees can no longer enter Hungary from Croatia, they are now forced to continue their journey through Europe via Slovenia.

Nearly 3,000 refugees have crossed in Slovenia since the border with Hungary was closed yesterday.

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel meanwhile will travel to Turkey today to discuss the migrant crisis.

Her visit comes just days after a deal which gives Turkish citizens easier access to the EU in return for better treatment for Syrian refugees in Turkey.
