A bomb blast in a parked car in south-east Turkey today killed two soldiers and injured one civilian, an official said.

Deputy Gov Sezgin Ucuncu said the bomb was planted in the car parked in the centre of the city of Hakkari, bordering Iraq and Iran.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but Kurdish rebels, fighting for autonomy in the region, have staged bomb attacks in the area.

The rebels have stepped up their attacks lately. The conflict has killed some 37,000 people since 1984.
