Drogba doubtful for Euro clash

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has admitted his availability for Tuesday’s Champions League opener with Rosenborg remains in doubt.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has admitted his availability for Tuesday’s Champions League opener with Rosenborg remains in doubt.

The Ivory Coast forward was forced to sit out yesterday’s 0-0 draw with Blackburn after he failed to shake off a problem in his right knee he has been carrying since pre-season.

Drogba revealed he is desperate for the problem to be swiftly rectified because the pain has become “unbearable” and acknowledged a return to action against Valencia on 0ctober 3 was more likely.

“For a month I’ve trained with pain in my right knee,” wrote Drogba in his column for French magazine ’Sport’.

“Sadly, I’ve not been able to get rid of this discomfort. I’ve played four Premier League matches in this state and it is unbearable.

“Now the pain is so great that my presence next Tuesday for the game with Rosenborg in the Champions League is in doubt. All will depend on the evolution of this injury, for I do not want to set it off again.

“I want the problem to be definitely fixed. The European Cup is a competition that makes me dream. It irritates me not to be there.

“The physios are getting to know me in a new light. In this kind of state I am frankly unpleasant.

“If I do miss Rosenborg, I hope to return for the trip to Valencia.”

Chelsea will also be hoping that Drogba is fully fit in time for next Sunday’s crunch Premier League clash with Manchester United.
