British MPs were today urged to hold an urgent inquiry into the decision by luxury carmaker Jaguar to end production in Coventry.
Tony Woodley, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union said bosses at Jaguar’s owners Ford should be questioned about the controversial move.
He said in a letter to the chairman of the Trade and Industry Select Committee that an inquiry was “both desirable and necessary.”
Mr Woodley added: “You will know that the implication for manufacturing, the UK economy and employment not only in vehicle manufacturing but also in the supply chain and the service sector which are dependent on the automotive industry, are extremely serious indeed.”
