Woman killed in Offaly road crash

A woman was killed today and her husband left seriously injured when they were hit by car in Co Offaly.

A woman was killed today and her husband left seriously injured when they were hit by car in Co Offaly.

The couple were walking along the N52 at Park, Kilcormac, at 9.15am when the accident happened.

The woman, in her 40s, died after the crash near Kilcormac Vocational School, while her husband, also in his 40s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

Gardaí at Birr station are investigating the crash in the tiny village between Tullamore and Birr.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The woman's death takes the total number of people killed in road accidents so far this year to 51.
