Brodie ready to row - Farrell

Trainer Ray Farrell is convinced that Michael Brodie will not carry any mental scars from his brutal first fight with Injin Chi into their rematch at the MEN Arena tonight.

Trainer Ray Farrell is convinced that Michael Brodie will not carry any mental scars from his brutal first fight with Injin Chi into their rematch at the MEN Arena tonight.

Local hero Brodie and Korean hard-man Chi again do battle for the WBC featherweight title having fought out an epic draw last October, in the 2003 Fight of the Year.

Repeat encounters rarely match the intensity of such titanic tussles, but Farrell has no fears that his charge will be found wanting if it does cut up rough again.

Farrell said: “I have got no doubts about Michael getting up for this fight because when Barry Hearn announced it was a draw last time and said to Michael: ‘You will have to do it again’, Michael replied: ‘Well, let’s do it now’.

“He’s a proper fighter. He’s very quiet and his demeanour is very modest, but when it comes down to it he can have a row all right.”

Brodie admitted that it took him a few days to get over the last contest, especially as it was his second near-miss at a WBC title having been robbed of a super-bantamweight belt in 2000.
