Gardaí in Kilkenny are hoping to conduct an interview today with the mother of a 16-year-old girl found dead at her home near Gowran over the weekend.

The body of Ciara Gibbs was discovered by her father and brother when they returned from an overnight trip on Sunday morning.

The girl's mother was also found unconscious in the house and is recovering in hospital in Kilkenny.

The results of the post mortem on the dead teenager's body have not been officially released, but reports this morning say she drowned in the bath.

Toxicology tests are also being conducted in the hope of shedding some light on the death.

A murder inquiry has not been launched, indicating that foul play is not suspected, but Gardaí are hoping the schoolgirl's mother will be able to help them explain the circumstances of the case.
