Brendan Irvine becomes fifth Irish boxer to qualify for Rio

Brendan Irvine has booked his place at the Rio Olympics.

It comes after he beat Bulgaria's Daniel Asenov by a unanimous decision in their flyweight box-off at the European Olympic Qualifiers in Turkey.

All three judges scored the contest 29-27 in his favor.

After a strong start from Asenov, Irvine came out strongly to edge his opponent and secure the victory.

He becomes the fifth Irish boxer to qualify for Rio, joining Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, Steven Donnelly and Joe Ward on the plane.
