Michael Healy Rae has revealed he is one of the three Independent TDs who have agreed to support Martin McGuinness in his bid for the Presidency.

The North's Deputy First Minister has returned from the US today. He is expected to be formally ratified as Sinn Féin's candidate in the presidential election, at an Ard Chomhairle meeting tomorrow.

Sinn Féin currently has 17 Oireachtas members, meaning the backing of three additional TDs will be enough to ensure Martin McGuinness can add his name to the ballot paper.

It is still not known which other two TDs have offered to support McGuinness.

Speaking to Radio Kerry, Kerry Independent TD Michael Healy Rae revealed he would be giving Martin McGuinness his support.

"The past is the past. Now we can look to the future…All I did was play a small role in assisting one candidate in getting to the stage of being a candidate," he said.
