American toy giant Hasbro has dumped plans to release dolls of pop six-piece The Pussycat Dolls after protests from angry parents.
The firm announced last month they were planning to market likenesses of the burlesque dancers-turned-pop stars this Christmas.
Despite the risque hitmakers' popularity with teenagers, conservative parents believes the girls' sexy image and racy lyrics are inappropriate for youngsters.
After family groups launched campaigns against the figurines' release, Hasbro agreed to end the project yesterday.
A statement from the toy manufacturer reads, "Interscope's (record label) current creative direction and images for the recording group are focused on a much older target than we had anticipated at the time of our original discussions, thereby making a doll line inappropriate for Hasbro."
Joe Kelly, president of family group Dads And Daughters, explains, "We asked Hasbro executives to imagine encouraging their own six-year-old daughters and granddaughters to engage in developmentally unhealthy behaviour."
