Irish Water: Tenants still liable for unpaid bill after they move out
Irish Water has moved to clarify the liability of landlords and tenants regarding who pays the water bill.
The new utility company says that a tenant is responsible for paying for their own usage, but that in the event that a tenant has not registered with Irish Water it will contact the landlord to ensure the responsible party receives the bill.
Irish water says it will announce further details of this shortly.
It has also outlined that if a tenant moves out of a rental property without settling and closing their account, they still remain liable and Irish Water will follow the matter up in the "standard ways".

Meanwhile, the Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe says Irish Water has to "deliver more" after a number of his party colleagues voiced "serious concerns" with how the body deals with complaints.
Mr Donohoe was speaking after a Fine Gael meeting last night heard members voice anger over Irish Water’s response to queries raised on behalf of their constituents.
The Minister said: "There have been problems with how Irish Water has communicated with the public."
He said it is time for them to do more.
He said: "There is a huge amount of understandable concern at the moment regarding what the cost of Irish Water will be in the future to families and people all over our country.
"People have gone through an awful time over the last number of years, we need to see Irish Water deliver more in relation to the service it is going to provide."
