Two Swedes survived 18 hours in sub-zero Arctic temperatures before being rescued from an ice floe after their plane sank.

Troels Hansen, 45, and Oliver Edwards-Neil, 25, were flying a Cessna Skymaster from Wabush, Newfoundland, to Iqaluit, Nunavut, on Sunday when both engines failed over northern Canada’s Hudson Strait.

The pair had just minutes to put on their survival suits, send a mayday message, and crash land next to a pan of ice on which they paced to keep warm. The survival suits kept them relatively dry, except their hands and feet, which were frostbitten.
