Homeowners are facing another hike in mortgage repayments, with the European Central Bank set to increase interest rates again today.

The bank is expected to increase its main lending rate by a quarter of one percentage point, bringing it to its highest level in six years.

The rise will be the eighth since November 2005.

Those increases have added around €300 to the monthly repayments on an average mortgage for a first-time buyer.
