A man remains in Garda custody in Co Kildare this morning after being arrested in connection with a fire at a housing estate in Newbridge.

Man in custody after Kildare blaze damages six houses

A man remains in Garda custody in Co Kildare this morning after being arrested in connection with a fire at a housing estate in Newbridge.

Gardaí have said six houses have been extensively damaged by the blaze - which broke out at Millfield Manor yesterday evening.

No injuries were reported and locals added seven families have been accommodated by relatives, friends and neighbours.

The 39-year-old man who was arrested is being held at Newbridge Garda station.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.
