Govt rules out sale of National Lottery

The Government will not give any further consideration to a sell-off of the National Lottery as part of plans to raise up to €2bn.

Last night, it had been learned that while the Lottery Company was included on a list of possibilities, it has already been ruled out.

It has a turnover of around €750m a year and almost a third of this, around €240m, is returned to 'good causes' that benefit from lottery profits each year.

The National Lottery, along with all other State assets, was placed on a list for possible sell-off by the Government as part of plans to raise up to €2bn.

But, senior government sources have said the Government has already ruled out its sale.
