Customs officials in Co Meath have stopped a vehicle carrying pork and bacon near Slane as part of their anti-foot and mouth measures.

Customs officials in Co Meath have stopped a vehicle carrying pork and bacon near Slane as part of their anti-foot and mouth measures.

The driver, who could not produce adequate documents in relation to his cargo, is currently being questioned by Department of Agriculture and Customs inspectors.

The seizure comes as the number of foot and mouth cases in Britain exceeded the one hundred mark for the first time. Seven new cases were confirmed this lunchtime, bringing the total to 103.
