New plans to study global warming in Galway
Scientists claim Ireland will soon have a major role in studying the effects of global warming, under a new initiative.
The seven-year 'Sea Change' strategy is being launched today, and its main aim is to examine and predict climate change.
The scheme will be run from Co Galway, as experts say the west coast of Ireland is one of the best places in Europe to study the climate.
Doctor Peter Heffernan of the Marine Institute said: "There will be exciting new technologies. Whole new teams of scientists will be created across the sectors in Ireland, in universities, in aid agencies, to target these most important areas. And, also a whole new infrastructure, such as the development of very exciting broadband-cabled sea-floor observatories."
