Amicus and AT&GWU unions to merge

Two of the country's main trade unions, Amicus and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union (AT&GWU), are to join forces, it emerged this afternoon.

Two of the country's main trade unions, Amicus and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union (AT&GWU), are to join forces, it emerged this afternoon.

The new union - which will have more than 100,000 members - will come into being on May 1.

A name for the new union has yet to be decided.
