Fine Gael's Northern Ireland spokesman said today the GAA could play a key role in persuading its members to join the new police service in the North.

Fine Gael's Northern Ireland spokesman said today the GAA could play a key role in persuading its members to join the new police service in the North.

Brian Hayes said it was unfair that the SDLP should shoulder all nationalist responsibility for recommending that people join the new force.

Along with the Catholic Church and the Irish Government, Mr Hayes said he believes the GAA is capable of taking responsibility and must not shy away from the issue.
