€175,000 haul of cannabis seized by Limerick gardaí

Gardaí in Limerick have seized cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €175,000.

Gardaí in Limerick have seized cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €175,000.

The drugs haul followed a joint operation between the Drugs Squad based at Henry Street station and gardaí from Roxboro Road station.

The cannabis resin was found hidden in an area of open ground in Southill on the southside of Limerick city at around 10.30pm last night.

No arrests were made at the scene and investigations are continuing.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road said the seizure was part of an on-going operation aimed at targeting the activities of drug dealers in the city.

A garda spokesman also confirmed that earlier reports which valued the drugs haul at €1m were not accurate.

There have been a number of major seizures of illegal drugs in Limerick city in recent weeks and sources say there has been a particular fall-off in the supply of cannabis resin in the city.
