Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has spent the night sheltering from Israeli fire in his West Bank offices.

Tanks and soldiers broke into the Ramallah compound on Thursday and began demolishing buildings.

Late last night, shells began landing on the floor above where Mr. Arafat was sheltering.

His aide, Nabil Abu Rubaynah, who was inside with him, said that there were no wanted people in the building.

“There are agreements between us and they should abide by them,” he said.
