Gormley faces pressure after Boyle loses confidence in O'Dea

Green Party leader John Gormley is likely to come under pressure today to state whether he has full confidence in Defense Minister Willie O'Dea.

Green Party leader John Gormley is likely to come under pressure today to state whether he has full confidence in Defense Minister Willie O'Dea.

Green Party chairman and senator Dan Boyle claimed the Minister was compromised and that he did not have confidence in him.

Yesterday evening five Green TDs voted confidence in the Defense Minister as part of a government Dáil motion.

But just over an hour Dan Boyle used his Twitter and Facebook pages to declare Minister O'Dea did not have his confidence.

It is understood the majority of the Parliamentary Party did not believe the controversy surrounding Minister O'Dea's swearing a false affidavit is a resigning matter, nor one which would spark a Green pull-out from Government.

Mr O'Dea has said he had not lied, but made a "simple mistake" in the matter, which he corrected at the first opportunity.

Today, the Opposition is expected to take every opportunity in the Oireachtas to demand the Green leader - Environment Minister John Gormley - state whether he has full confidence in Minister O'Dea.
