McMahon to skipper Laois

Ballyroan-Abbey clubman Padraig McMahon has been chosen as the Laois Senior football captain for the 2010 Championship.

Ballyroan-Abbey clubman Padraig McMahon has been chosen as the Laois Senior football captain for the 2010 Championship.

McMahon impressed on the half-back line for the O'Moore County during their mixed league campaign, which only yielded three wins - but enough to secure Division 2 status for 2011.

Laois are due to face either Meath or Offaly in the Leinster SFC quarter-finals on June 13 at Croke Park.

The secondary school teacher says that all the players know they need to improve on recent campaigns.

"We'd have to improve on last year," he said.

"Last year's performances were very poor by any standard. In the last couple of years we have been challenging for Leinster finals.

"It's been a while since we have been in Croke Park, and we are looking forward to getting back there on June 13, and giving it a good go."
