Sales of Harry Potter books have passed the 100 million mark.

The stories have been published all over the world and have been translated into 42 languages.

The books' author JK Rowling is said to be delighted.

Her agent released a statement saying: "Harry Potter books have entered the pages of history.

"This is an unprecedented publishing achievement anywhere in the world, either for adult or children's books.

"To put this into perspective, imagine that every woman, woman and child in the UK had two Harry Potter books."

The first of the four books to have been published is currently being made into a film.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is due to be released in the UK in November.
