A major advertising campaign is being launched today to inform the public of the Census taking place throughout Northern Ireland later this month.

At the launch at Belfast’s Odyssey Centre, Finance Minister Mark Durkan will announce the theme of the campaign, ‘‘Census - count me in’’.

As well as a major poster campaign, adverts will go out on local TV and radio stations urging people to participate.

Last week, Mr Durkan announced that the Census would go ahead as planned on April 19, despite difficulties caused by foot-and-mouth restrictions.

Census forms will be hand delivered next week except for people from the farming industry or those living in restricted areas, who will have their forms posted.

The last time it was held, in 1991, there was a 99% response but some people were prosecuted for refusing to fill in their forms.
