A second juror has been discharged in the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting Limerick rugby player Shane Geoghegan.

A second juror has been discharged in the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting Limerick rugby player Shane Geoghegan.

Barry Doyle with addresses in Limerick and Portland Row, Dublin, denies murdering the 28-year-old on November 9, 2008 in a suspected case of mistaken identity.

The jury was already down to 11 members after one juror had to leave mid-trial due to illness in the family.

It has now dropped to 10 after a member was discharged this lunchtime because he is flying to America tomorrow morning.

He had raised the trip when being sworn in for the trial and was assured that the proceedings would be well over by now.

The jury who have been deliberating for around nine and a half hours had been given an offer of returning a majority verdict of ten to one, but Mr Justice Paul Carney pointed out that is no longer viable.
