The truth of what happened to the seven Omagh fire victims must be uncovered mourners attending their funeral Mass have been told today.

Arthur McElhill will be buried in Co Fermanagh while his partner Lorraine Mc Govern and their five children will be buried in Corlough in Co Cavan.

All died from smoke inhalation, but a police murder investigation has centred on the father.

Speaking during the funeral mass, Monsignor Joseph Donnelly said there was a need to know what had happened, not least to prevent a possible similar tragedy in the future.

"Justice requires that the truth be sought in a fair and thorough manner usually left to those skilled in investigative means," Mons. Donnelly said to a packed congregation at the Sacred Heart Church in Omagh.

"But when speculation runs rife in some quarters and allegations are feted, truth is sidelined and justice ignored."
