Jose Antonio Reyes and Dennis Bergkamp returned after domestic suspension to boost Arsenal’s attacking power as they looked to overturn their Champions League deficit against Bayern Munich.

Reyes was preferred to Robert Pires, who was on the bench following his ankle injury, while Bergkamp, who did not take part in the 3-1 away defeat, was hoping to make his presence felt up front.

With Edu sidelined with a knee injury, Mathieu Flamini came into central midfield and there was a surprise appearance for Gilberto on the bench.

The Brazilian, whose return was said by Arsene Wenger to be a month away only last week, has not played since mid-September, when he suffered a back injury.

Sol Campbell and Pascal Cygan were ruled out, while Bayern welcomed back Michael Ballack after being injured for the first leg, while Sebastian Deisler also started, but Roy Makaay was missing after suffering an injury at the weekend.
