The Medical Council has begun an inquiry into allegations of professional misconduct against a Cork GP.

The Medical Council has begun an inquiry into allegations of professional misconduct against a Cork GP.

The move follows an investigation into the large amounts of drugs or tranquilisers prescribed by Dr Iwona Kulcyzk-Repec, a GP with an address in Cloyne.

The Medical Council alleges Dr Kulcyzk's prescribing of drugs was inappropriate.

She admits the facts of the case and that it amounts to poor professional performance, but she denies professional misconduct.

The hearing is expected to last two days.
