A five-year-old boy has died after he was shut in a sofa bed by an uncle who did not realise the child had crawled into bed beside him.

Sgt Mark Lohman of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said it appeared the man woke up to go to work in Moreno Valley, California, and folded up the bed with the boy inside.

‘‘We anticipate no arrests,’’ Lohman said.

The boy, one of twins, was identified as Scott Dunn. An autopsy will be done next week to determine the cause of death.

After family members reported the boy missing, police arrived to find the boy’s grandfather holding the child in his arms outside the home.
