Winona's doc faces illegal practice charge

Winona Ryder’s former doctor has been charged with illegally practising medicine, eight months after his licence was revoked for prescribing painkillers to the Hollywood star.

Jules Lusman, 50, is accused of injecting two women with Botox and Perlane, a lip-enhancing substance similar to collagen, at his luxury home in Brentwood, California.

The procedures were allegedly carried out after he was stripped of his licence last December for providing addictive painkillers to several Hollywood celebrities, including Ryder.

The Medical Board of California said he catered to “the demands of wealthy and famous drug-seekers for prescription narcotics which would otherwise have to be obtained on the street”.

The former surgeon was arrested earlier this month after one of the women he allegedly treated made a formal complaint.

He faces eight charges in connection with practising medicine without a licence, according to a Los Angeles Superior Court criminal complaint.

His lawyer, Kendric Rollins, said: “Mr Lusman has entered a not-guilty plea to the alleged charges and we are looking to put an end to this matter as soon as possible.”
