It’s everything you’d expect it to be: cloying, tacky … energetic, musical and a lot of innocent, Disneyesque fun.
It’s the sort of endlessly feel-good sweetener that almost defeats proper critical analysis.
But, above all, it’s fun and its millions of adoring fans will love every second of it.
The gang have reached the end of their High School years and are contemplating the approach of College and the break-up of all their friendships, most especially Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) … so the only obvious thing to do is stage a musical that looks ahead to their futures.
Taken as a film in its own right, the dancing is much better than in the previous two, but some of the songs are quite ordinary, with a recycled feel to them.
But, above all, it’s fun … and surely it can’t be the end of 'High School', even if 'College Musical' doesn’t quite grab the imagination?
