Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels detonated a roadside bomb in northern Sri Lanka today, killing two police officers and wounding another, the military said.

Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels detonated a roadside bomb in northern Sri Lanka today, killing two police officers and wounding another, the military said.

The rebels detonated the bomb as a police jeep passed by in the northern district of Vavuniya, according to an officer at the Media Centre for National Security.

There was no immediate comment from the rebels.
