Lawyers for the Limerick man accused of murdering a Garryowen rugby player in 2008 will begin their defence today.
30-year-old John Dundon, of Hyde Road in Limerick, denies having anything to do with Shane Geoghegan's death.
The three judges at the non-jury special criminal court have vowed to stay on until John Dundon's trial is dealt with, despite the summer break officially beginning last week.
The State's case wrapped up last Thursday after hearing evidence from two of their key witnesses.
April Collins, a former partner of John Dundon's brother, said she witnessed the accused ordering a hit on a neighbour of Shane Geoghegan's.
She also told the court that he flew into a rage a few hours after Shane's murder on November 9, 2008, when he realised the wrong man had been killed.
April's sister Lisa told the trial that Dundon ordered her and her partner Christopher McCarthy to steal a car for the hitman, who has since been convicted of the murder.
Brendan Nix, acting for Dundon, spent the past few days looking over a number of tapes and he is due to put forward his defence today.
The trial is expected to conclude this week.
