A flight has been diverted to Shannon Airport overnight following an on-board "air rage" incident.

The Delta Airlines plane from JFK to Greece was forced to take the action after a female passenger became aggressive with both the crew and her fellow passengers.

The 30-year-old woman from the US was removed by gardaí and taken to Shannon garda station for questioning.

She was subsequently charged and is due to appear before a special court sitting later this morning.

The flight with 270 passengers and 13 crew, resumed its journey to Greece at around 5.30am this morning.
