A convicted killer has been extradited to England to face charges of grevious bodily harm to a man 21 years ago.
Oliver Coleman from Shannonbridge, Co Offaly, is wanted in connection with an alleged assault in Leeds on Hugh Raymond O'Gorman on June 9, 1989.
Mr O'Gorman died 16 months after the alleged attack having never regained consciousness.
Mr Coleman was due to go on trial on October 16, 1990, just four days after his alleged victim Hugh O'Gorman died, but instead he skipped bail and returned home to Ireland.
In 1999 extradition proceedings were initiated and in November 2003 Coleman lost a Supreme Court challenge against his surrender to British authorites.
However, he remained in Ireland because in the meantime he had been sentenced to 12 years for the manslaughter of another man Michael Rosney who he shot during a row after a house party in Belmont. He was cleared by a jury of murder.
He has now been released seven years into his sentence and Gardaí have confirmed he was flown back to the UK last night 20 years after his original trial date to face charges.
