The Constituency Commission believes that the number of Dáil constituencies should be increased.

The Commission released its reports today and recommends the country’s 42 constituencies should now become 43 but that the number of TDs should remain at 166.

The Kildare North, Dublin Mid West and County Meath Constituencies will all receive an extra seat. While there will be a reduction of a seat in Cork North Central and Dublin North-Central.

Altogether, 23 constituencies will get boundary adjustments due to population shifts.

The four-seater Sligo-Leitrim will become the three-seater Sligo-North Leitrim.

The four-seater Longford-Roscommon is broken into three-seater Roscommon-South Leitrim, while a new four-seater constituency of Longford-Westmeath will be created.

The changes are due to take effect at the next General Election.
