Gardai are investigating a serious assault on a man and his family who were attacked in their home on Victoria Road in Killiney.
Two men entered the house in Co Dublin at around at 11.15pm. There were four occupants in the house at the time. A husband and wife in their sixties, their daughter, who is in her twenties and another woman in her forties.
One of the attackers is believed to have been armed with a shotgun, the other had an iron bar. They hit the man across the head and knocked him unconscious. They then locked the three women into a boot of a car and made off with a small amount of personal property.
Later, when the man regained consciousness, he raised the alarm. The gardai released the women from the boot of the car.
The assault victim was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital but has since been released.
No arrests have been made and a full investigation is underway.
