Fears grow for HSE jobs in west region

SIPTU has called on the HSE West to engage in discussions as fears grow for hundreds of jobs in the health sector in that region.

Hospitals across the mid-west have been told to get back inside budgets which have overun by €51m so far this year.

Unions say that will impact on jobs across the region.

Some 183 jobs have already been identified to go in Galway city alone but SIPTU says its understanding is that at least 300 jobs will be cut as part of the rationalisation.

The union has now called on the HSE West to engage in discussion on how the cuts wll affect jobs and services.
