Drunk passenger who sparked hijack alert 'thought cockpit was toilet'

It has emerged that a drunk passenger who sparked a hijack alert and forced a plane to land early in Bali mistook the cockpit for the toilet.

The pilot declared a hijacking on the Virgin flight from Brisbane yesterday after the passenger tried to enter the cockpit. There were 139 passengers on board.

The man was reportedly restrained by the cabin crew and then arrested when the plane touched down at the Indonesian island’s Denpasar airport, where troops entered the aircraft.

After his arrest, the 28-year-old Australian passenger told officials he banged on what he thought was the toilet door. He remains in police custody.
