The Construction Workers Trust has said that hundreds of lives could be saved if a national prostate cancer screening programme was established.

The CWT conducted its own pilot screening involving 2,000 construction workers, 115 of whom tested positive for the illness.

The trust said 1,200 cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed every year. Around 500 Irish people also die from the illness each year, many of whom could be saved through early diagnosis.
