A Fianna Fáil is calling for the Gardaí to be given the power to seize and destroy mini-motorbikes whose owners break the law.

Dublin North-West TD Pat Carey claims the drivers of these vehicles are terrorising people in public parks by riding them at speeds of up to 80km/h.

Mini-motorbikes stand less than two feet off the ground and are often bought as toys for kids.

They are also used by adults as part of a growing sport called mini-moto.

Earlier this year, the British government launched a crackdown on the vehicles that will see nuisance drivers having their bikes confiscated and crushed.
