Wild Atlantic Way will officially launch today

A new tourism initiative to attract more international visitors to the west of Ireland will be officially launched by the Minister of State for Tourism in Dublin today.

The Wild Atlantic Way, which stretches for 2,500 kilometres from Donegal to Cork aims to link the destinations and attractions along the route together.

It's the first ever long-distance touring route here in Ireland showcasing the Atlantic coastline.

The head of the programme, Fiona Monaghan, said the initiative offers significant opportunities to tourism providers across the west coast.

"The Wild Atlantic Way is a huge opportunity for tourism businesses the length and breadth of the West of Ireland to work together and be profiled overseas as a compelling reason to come and visit."

"The route will be completely signed from the first of April, and over the next six months we will be developing a series of 159 'discovery points' along the route."
