Oasis singer Liam Gallagher faces a charge of assaulting a policeman following a brawl in a luxury Munich hotel where he lost two front teeth, German police said today.
The band was to resume its European tour tonight with Gallagher sporting facial injuries. Five of the Oasis entourage spent a night in the cells at Munich police headquarters and the band then cancelled last night’s concert in the city.
Saying Oasis members picked a fight on Saturday night, police rejected a claim on the band’s website that they were the victims of an “unprovoked attack” by a group of youths.
Police say the singer kicked an officer in the chest before he was subdued and they are considering a charge of dangerous assault against him.
Dentists have implanted two artificial teeth in Gallagher’s jaw to replace the front teeth he lost during the punch-up at the nightclub in the Bayerischer Hof hotel.
Two of the group’s security guards were forced to seek hospital treatment, one after being knocked unconscious, the Oasis website said. The attackers had left the scene before police arrived.
The band headed by Liam and Noel Gallagher has a long history of wild living as well as spats between singer Liam and his songwriter brother.
Tonight’s concert in Hamburg would go ahead, said German tour promoter Christopher Brosch.
