Government urged to invest in construction sector

The Government could bring thousands of Irish emigrants back to work - if it invests in the construction sector.

That is the message from the Construction Federation of Ireland - which is meeting the Finance and Public Expenditure Ministers today.

They are looking to encourage the Government to spend more money in the sector - which was all but wiped out in the economic crash.

CIF Director General Tom Parton said investment in the sector could get thousands of emigrants to return to Ireland.

"I know certainly from people that send me CVs…if there was a job opportunity here for them they would be back in a flash," he said.

"One in four people that are currently signing on are former construction workers so there is a massive pool of talent out there that don't need much further training and are available to go to work in the morning."
