A man has died in a shooting in the Southill area of Limerick this morning.

The man was standing in front of a house in O'Malley Park just before 3am when he was shot once by a gunman who approached on foot.

He is understood to have been hit in the abdomen and died a short time later at Limerick Regional Hospital.

The victim is the 25th person to be killed in gun-related attacks in Ireland this year.

His murder is believed to be linked to the long-running feud between rival criminal gangs in Limerick.

Another man was also injured in a separate shooting in the Moyross area of the city last night, but that attack is not believed to be connected to the violent feud.
