A Co Tyrone engineering firm is to make 90 people redundant, it announced today.

Powerscreen from Dungannon will shed more workers following the slowdown in orders worldwide.

It manufactures mobile screening equipment used in the construction, mining and recycling industries at the affected centre and employs 490 staff.

A spokeswoman said: “We have since last year been closely monitoring the performance of our markets on a global basis and there is no doubt we, like many operators in the engineering and manufacturing sector, face considerable challenges.

“Because of reduced market demands, we are looking to consolidate our operations to maximise efficiencies to ensure we remain competitive.

“As part of this, regrettably, we need to adjust staff numbers in our operations in Northern Ireland and in England.”

At the end of last year Powerscreen made 70 employees redundant.

None of 315 staff in Omagh will be affected.
