ICTU concerned at increase in job cuts

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has expressed concern over the number of companies that are cutting back their workforces here.

It is feared that there may be more job losses about to be announced at Xerox and Compaq, after both companies reported multi-million pound losses today.

A spokesperson for the ICTU said that Irish trade unions were keeping a close eye on the continuing down turn in the US economy.
