Armed robber escapes from prison guards at Galway hospital

Gardaí are searching for a 37-year-old armed robber who escaped from the custody of prison guards in Galway early this morning.

Gardaí are searching for a 37-year-old armed robber who escaped from the custody of prison guards in Galway early this morning.

Michael Murray, from Douglas in Cork, has been incarcerated at Castlerea Prison for the past five years and was due for release this summer.

However, he managed to escape through a toilet window just after 1am this morning after being taken to hospital in Galway last night.

Mr Murray is described as 5'10" in height, of strong build, with a bald head.
